Great Harwood Rovers Football Club was founded in 1975. We are located in NE Lancashire between Blackburn, Burnley, and Accrington. We are an FA Community Club and were Charter Standard founder members in 2001. We currently have 29 teams of boys, girls and adults aged from 5 to 40 plus.
We signed a 25-year lease (including an option for a further 25) for Heymoor Farm playing fields, which meant we became the custodian of 4 purpose-built football pitches and a fantastic new headquarters that includes changing facilities, a coach education suite and a host of other amenities. The playing field is located on the Great Harwood Show site (see Google Earth) on the edge of our town in very picturesque surroundings.
The location is great and the pavilion that is under construction will be first class, but ultimately, we are most pleased by the quality of our 4 football pitches. We have pitches that accommodate 5, 7, 9 and 11 a side formats. The pitches were constructed by Turfdry Ltd who were appointed by the Developer who managed this element of a much bigger local project. There were some real challenges facing Turfdry including our notoriously wet local weather and the layout of the site. To say we are delighted with the results of their labours is an understatement. The rain at times is relentless, but in 10 months on site to date we have had no postponed games. Every team that visits comments on the fact that we have professional standard pitches and cannot believe how lucky we are. We also have a couple of former Premier League players in our ranks who frequently eulogise about the pitches, saying they are as good as anything they have seen.
The pitches laid by Turfdry which incorporate the Hydraway system have certainly exceeded our expectations. They are firm and a matter of hours after a deluge you would hardly know there had been any rain that day. We as a Club will ensure that we follow the maintenance schedules outlined by Turfdry and the FA, we know how lucky we are and will invest in our fantastic pitches in the long term.
On behalf of Great Harwood Rovers and our members thank you, Melvyn and the Turfdry Team.
