If you drain it, they will play
A new baseball field was being built on the site where Field of Dreams was filmed and Hydraway was brought in to design the drainage system. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our team, and we were ready to not only meet the high expectations for this facility but also have the field ready for a televised game between the Yankees and the White Sox.
Baseball Field Case Study
A general contractor called Hydraway to assist in the field design. One of our top experts, Jim Surrell, visited the location to properly gauge the field size. The general contractor provided a drainage design, and our team of professionals made the necessary modifications. The game was going to be broadcast nationally, and the field needed to meet high standards.
Hydraway Drainage System was recommended and provided to the contractor. Hydraway has a highly respected reputation as a first-in-class drainage system. We supplied over 12,000 feet of 12-inch Hydraway for the field. Jim specified a percolation rate of 18 to 28-inches per hour, meaning a rainfall event where 3-inches of water came down an hour before the game would be channeled off the field with no rain delay.
There was no rain on game day! Nevertheless, the field was prepared with the Hydraway Drainage System to handle a significant amount of precipitation. Incidentally, the field did receive 2.5-inches of rain the evening before the game and Hydraway made it possible for the field crew to mow the field the morning of the game.
The Hydraway Drainage System FAQ
The Hydraway Drainage System is an advanced, cost-effective replacement for the typical French Drain system. This system is easier to install and features the industry’s highest in-flow rate and compressive strength, and has a history of dependable performance.
What Are the System Components?
Hydraway is a flat strip drain solution that lasts longer and performs better than competing drainage systems. Hydraway is a geocomposite subsurface drainage solution that’s composed of a structured high-density polyethylene (HDPE) perforated core that is thermally bonded to a geotextile filter fabric. Hydraway resists clogging better than perforated drainage systems and maintains flow rates over time.
Why is Hydraway better than traditional drainage systems?
Hydraway piping features zero coil memory and lies completely flat, significantly reducing installation time. Installing Hydraway vertically requires a trench of 3-4-inches wide by 12-15-inches deep. Not only are labor hours being reduced, but with the reduced trench size there is a backfill material cost savings. Traditional Systems clog easily with dirt and debris, leading to water standing water and system failure. Hydraway’s unique fabric filter prevents dirt and silt particles from entering the system, meaning our system always works at full capacity.
Why use Hydraway on your fields?
Poorly drained fields can lead to damaged playing surfaces, a loss of playing time, loss of revenue and most seriously, reduced safety for players. Installing the Hydraway Drainage System ensures your field is in peak playing condition and prevents injuries. Intech has years of experience manufacturing drainage systems. We provide a competitive edge by offering superior support and always having inventory ready to ship. Contact us today, and you’ll see why Hydraway is the drainage system of choice.
