Frequently Asked Questions
Drainage is a critical part of the infrastructure in any facility, whether it’s residential, civil, or commercial. We’re here to answer your questions.
Drainage is simultaneously a simple idea—ensure that water is moved quickly from where you don’t want it to another location—and a complex one that utilizes a variety of different components, each with a particular purpose, that all work in harmony to keep your facility dry.
In other words, drainage is more than simply laying down some pipe and calling it a day.
From questions about system design to an understanding of what makes two drainage systems different, questions on the topic abound. Before diving into a few of these, it’s important to talk about the approach Hydraway takes to every project.
We are more than just providers of drainage equipment. Our consulting services help make sure that your project goes off without a hitch. That is, to ensure that once everything is completed, your new facility is not plagued with water issues after every rainstorm, leaking basements and crawl spaces, or unplayable sports fields, and nuisance standing water problems.
Combined with our network of distributors located around the world, we’re able to provide timely supply and support wherever your project might be located, all while keeping shipping costs low.
What makes Hydraway so effective over other drainage systems?
As a flat drain system, it offers a variety of advantages over other, more traditional perforated pipe systems.
Where can Hydraway be installed?
Hydraway has products that can be installed in a variety of applications ranging from waterproofing a residential basement or crawlspace to drainage for an entire professional athletic field. Appropriate for both natural and synthetic turf fields, Hydraway is far more versatile than perforated pipe.
Hydraway is also often installed as a part of civil projects. Airport runways and roadways rely on Hydraway as an edge drain system to eliminate water buildup, and retaining walls depend on Hydraway to mitigate the destructive effects of erosion or hydrostatic pressure that can destroy a wall.. Hydraway is even installed in fracking cleanup sites due to its high reliability and perfect record without failure.
Hydraway systems are constructed using a needle-punctured fabric exterior, leading to exceptional clog resistance. On its own, this feature sets Hydraway apart but considers the implications for installation. From athletic fields—both with natural and synthetic turf—to residential backyards, the installation process may look different but the clog resistance means few, if any, applications are off-limits.
The installation may require one strip of hydraway—or two in parallel—laid on its side in a narrow trench. Or, it may involve simply laying it flat across a soon-to-be athletic field. Either way, other drainage systems would require additional steps or materials to avoid clogging.
Where can I purchase Hydraway?
Our worldwide network of distributors makes getting Hydraway to your project on time and on budget simple. Project timelines can be tight, so having the product there when you need it is absolutely essential. We’ve organized our network of distributors to make on-time delivery a top priority.
Our network of distributors doesn’t just benefit our customers with on-time delivery, either. Because our distributors are stationed around the United States and around the world, there is always a supply of Hydraway in relative close proximity to your project. This dramatically brings down shipping costs and allows Hydraway to be a cost-competitive option.
Who Is My Local Distributor?
You can find a regional distributor near you by visiting our distributors page. Based around the United States and with several locations worldwide, our network of independent distributors makes getting the equipment you need on time and for the agreed upon price certainty.
Outside of all of the other benefits of Hydraway Drainage Systems for residential, commercial, and civil applications, one of the primary advantages is our ability to have the project to the work site when you need it. Construction projects are expensive for a variety of reasons, but inefficiency in product delivery can skyrocket the cost. At Hydraway, we aim to avoid that.
Why do athletic field designers and other contractors choose Hydraway for their projects?
High inflow rates are critical to ensuring that the state of play on a given field is not impacted by excess water. Standing water results in damage to fields and a greater risk of injury for players, and Hydraway is the most effective solution on the market to mitigate this risk.
Because athletic field drainage systems require long strips of drainage pipe to extend across the entire field, Hydraway is a perfect solution. The product ships in coils of custom length up to 2,250 feet and never suffers from coil memory as other drainage systems do. This cuts down on installation time and helps keep projects on-budget.
Finally, Hydraway has higher compressive strength than other drainage systems—11,400 pounds per square foot. It remains 100% effective even with large amounts of gravel piled on top and does not deteriorate over time. Plus, Hydraway does not show through the surface as other systems do, depending on the weather.

How Long Will Equipment Delivery Take?
Your product can be delivered to your worksite quickly in accordance with product timelines. The exact time depends on the nature of your order. Bulk orders will take longer to fulfill depending on the capacity of your local distributor. Similarly, because Hydraway can be ordered in custom-length coils, delivery may take longer if the product is being customized to your needs.
All of that being said, we are committed to working closely with end-users and developers so that projects can be completed on time. We will work with project managers in the planning phase of any project to ensure that all requirements are known and will be fulfilled on or before the required dates.
Before, during, and after the project, the Team at Hydraway Drainage Systems prides itself on our high availability to our past, current, and future customers. Before your project actually takes place, we’ll consult with you to determine exactly which product and how much of it will be required.
We never want our customers—whether they are contractors working on professional athletic facilities or homeowners looking to save their basement—to overbuy, underbuy, or get the wrong product.
This consultative approach means we can advise on the proper installation of the system once the project is underway so that it works the first time and continues for years to come. If any new questions arise after your project is completed, we’re just a phone call away.
